ACUPUNCTURE FOR ASTHMA
Acupuncture for Asthma Acupuncture has been widely used to relieve pain and treat certain health conditions, yet many people don’t know about the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and its techniques, like acupuncture and herbs, to alleviate respiratory problems such as asthma and its accompanying symptoms, including shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing.
How exactly acupuncture works in improving asthma symptoms is yet to be fully understood. However, medical researchers theorize that it’s the tiny needles inserted into certain points in the rib cage area that may relax the muscles involved in breathing. Which in a way makes sense, since breathlessness is linked to anxiety, and relaxation of these muscles equates to proper breathing.
Furthermore, it has been discovered that acupuncture releases chemicals that allow the lungs to relax and expand the airways. Also, acupuncture has been considered to help with other chronic respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, pulmonary disease, and as a simpler and immediate solution for milder respiratory problems like common colds, cough, shortness of breath, emphysema, etc.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, there are many factors that may trigger an asthma attack, e.g. the invasion of the external pathogenic factors like sudden weather changes, diet, emotional disturbances, congenital weakness or chronic diseases.
Our patients have felt great relief in treating their asthma condition. Most of the time they have been able to significantly reduce their medication and some to get off of it completely under the supervision of their primary doctor.
